2008
Children’s Writing Workshop

This workshop will run from Tuesday, June 24- Friday June 27 from 1:00-3:00pm at 584 Adam Lane in Carol Stream. We are happy to offer this wonderful program to the community. Last year’s program was such a success! The kids had fun while learning to write and then reading their published works at The Bookstore in Glen Ellyn.  Click here to see a slideshow of the kid's from 2007 reading! courtesy of Maxine Ledford

The goal of the workshop is for our young writers to have fun and enjoy the process of creative writing with others, while exploring their own voice, learning new skills, and reinforcing already introduced creative writing concepts. New this year, we will be having a session on illustrating! We will also have a guest author make a special speaking appearance! This was a great experience for the kids to meet a published author in a smaller private setting.

The kids will be working on writing poetry, and a short fiction story.  We will work with them to edit and sharpen their work and choose which one they would like to showcase in a published literary journal- “Kid’s Possibilities”.  Each child will receive their own copy. They will then have a public reading of their work. This will reinforce the power of their unique voice in the written word while honoring it- Encouraging them to be lifelong writers.

The Workshop will be divided into 2 sections: Ages 8-10 and Ages 11-14 and will be taught by Illinois certified teachers with a strong focus in creative writing.

The cost for this program, public reading event, and a published literary journal is $35. There is a limit to the number of kids to be enrolled. Unfortunately, once we reach that number, the classes will be filled and enrollment closed. The deadline for enrollment is:  Monday June  9th.

DuPage Writers Group

Our mission is:

Our mission is to support each other by supplying motivation to write, by critiquing each other's work, by networking with other writers, by providing a nurturing environment, and by sharing ideas and techniques.

We also "come together for real-time writing or writing practice because we have experienced the collective energy that occurs when we join, with writing as our purpose. ... In writing groups, we bear witness to each other's work, we learn from one another and spark each other's creativity. We share camaraderie and create community."  Quotes from  Judy Reeves' book, Writing Alone, Writing Together.
