Introducing Possibilities, Volume 5, Spring
2010

Challenge the Possibilities
. . .
In this issue of Possibilities, we look beyond our suburban world to
consider wider challenges. We honor all the people who died in the Haiti
earthquake on January 12, especially a dear nephew of our DWG board member
We are dedicated to assisting with the aftermath by helping
the
Hands Together Mission of Father Tom Hagan, which supports those
living in the poorest part of Haiti's Cite Soleil in Port-Au-Prince.
We include a letter describing the devastation from Father Hagan.
Our pieces explore other challenges --- from a new career in England to an
eye-opening look at Chicago’s Picasso sculpture; from trembling at the sight of
a bully to the fear of an unknown house; from the children we raise to the
relationships we cherish; we are stronger for the challenges we accept.
Presented in the form of short stories, essays, poems, letters, and memoirs,
punctuated with original art and photography, The DuPage Writers Group of
Illinois presents its journal, Possibilities, a literary celebration.

Imagine
the Possibilities:
Meet whimsical Cat and
such real characters as Exilda Matilda, Curly Top, Addie, Mumma,
Space Cadet, S’mores, and a singing roofer. Journey through the circle of
life, sharing true stories about a 1950’s country schoolhouse
and coming of age in Sri Lanka, touching poetry about growing
older, a humorous essay about last rites, and a
mother's inspiring true story about throwing a rope from heaven.

world of the scientist, listening to your inner voice, and moving
faster than the speed of light. Or enjoy a cup of Christmas tea on a warm
